Summer Environmental Intern

This position is for an ambitious, hardworking student interested in pursuing a career in the environmental profession.  The selected individual will primarily assist with the implementation of our water meter material inspection program, which focuses on the identification of pipe materials for inventory for the Virginia Department of Health.  This individual will also have the opportunity to train in a wide variety of environmental services and be mentored by certified professionals in the following areas: erosion and sediment control inspections, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections, wetland delineations and permitting, perennial flow determinations, and Resource Protection Area (RPA) delineations.  The expected hours of work can be flexible depending on the needs of the selected individual.  The individual will be required to work outside for long hours and must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:

• Comfortable working outside for long hours in sometimes extreme weather conditions.
• Able to physically perform outside fieldwork activities and tasks.
• A desire to learn in a variety of environmental services.
• Comfortable working in a team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Rising senior in high school or current college student.
• Background in environmental studies.

Job Type: Seasonal, 32-40 hours (can be flexible)

Starting Pay: $14.00/hour

Hours of Operation:

• Monday to Thursday – 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Friday – 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Ability to commute:

• Fredericksburg, VA 22401: Reliably commute to main office (Required)

License/Certification:

• Driver’s License (Required)
